Ahead of their slot at Lollapalooza over the weekend, Deftones played an intimate show in Chicago, where they broke out the first performance of ‘Passenger’ in five years. Check out footage below.
Taking place last Thursday (August 1), the intimate show came as the band performed at one of the Chicago festival’s aftershows at the Metro – just one day before playing a huge set at Lolla 2024.
News of the gig was announced at the last minute, and was quick to capture the attention of fans in the area as it would see Chino Moreno and co. head to a venue that only had a 1,100 capacity.
On the night, the hits from across their discography came in thick and fast, opening with ‘Feiticeira’, and continued with hits like ‘Change (In The House Of Flies)’, ‘My Own Summer (Shove It)’ and ‘Be Quiet And Drive (Far Away)’.
However, the highlight of the night undoubtedly came 11 songs into the 18-track setlist, when the band surprised the crowd by breaking out the first live performance of ‘Passenger’ in five years. The song is taken from their hit 2000 classic ‘White Pony’, and was last played live back in 2019.
The rendition was not limited to the intimate gig in Chicago either, as they also integrated the song into the set during the huge Lollapalooza set on Saturday night (August 3). Check out footage from the intimate show below, as well as the full tracklist from the night.

In other Deftones news, they have announced the line-up for their annual Dia De Los Deftones festival, which is taking place at Petco Park in San Diego, California on Saturday, November 2.
This year the festival welcomes IDLES, Sunny Day Real Estate, HEALTH and more to join them for a day of music across two stages.
Elsewhere, last month a study found Deftones are the most popular metal band to listen to during sex.
The study, carried out by ZipHealth, found that 47 per cent of respondents said that they regularly listen to music during sex, and Deftones were found to be one of the most popular choices. They were the only band from a hard rock or metal category to be featured in the Top 10 overall acts. Others who topped the list included Kendrick Lamar, Drake and Lana Del Rey.
