The Last Dinner Party have revealed that they have started working on their second studio album.
The London band released their acclaimed first record, ‘Prelude To Ecstasy’, in February. It subsequently became the biggest UK Number One debut album in nine years. Last month, NME listed the LP as one of the 10 best debut albums of 2024 so far.
During a recent interview with The Guardian, it was noted that TLDP had begun writing material for the second full-length effort “over a two-week session early in May”.
“I think I can speak for everyone: it was the happiest we’ve been in a really long time,” explained frontwoman Abigail Morris.
Guitarist Lizzie Mayland said the “silver lining” of the group’s rapid rise is that the songwriting process remains exciting to them. “It feels like we’re doing something new,” the musician continued.
Morris went on to state that she was conscious of resisting the “sophomore trap” of aiming to either better their debut or reinvent themselves.
“If we change, it’s going to be because we want to… a natural, gentle evolution as we go through our 20s,” the singer added.

The update came ahead of The Last Dinner Party’s performance on the Other Stage at Glastonbury Festival 2024 last weekend, where they played two unreleased songs: ‘Second Best’ and ‘The Killer’.
Elsewhere in the set, Morris called on the crowd to “make the change” at the General Election tomorrow (July 4). “I think we all know who we are voting for, but it doesn’t end with the Tories being kicked out,” she said.
In March, The Last Dinner Party spoke to NME about new material and the response to their debut album at the BRITs 2024 – shortly before being presented with the Rising Star award.
“The record came out and we went straight on tour,” explained Morris. “It was the best tour we’ve ever done because it was the first time that people knew the words to everything. It was really, very beautiful.”
She talked about another yet-to-be-released track called ‘Big Dog’, which has been played live at TLDP’s gigs. You can watch NME‘s video interview in full above.
