Kevin Feige used ‘Fortnite’ as inspiration for new ‘Fantastic Four’ film

The MCU's version of big bad Galactus has been inspired by his appearance in the game

Marvel boss Kevin Feige has revealed that he used Fortnite as a major source of inspiration for the upcoming Fantastic Four film.

Starring Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards / Mr. Fantastic and Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm / Invisible Woman alongside Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm / The Human Torch and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm / The Thing, Fantastic Four: The First Steps will see the superhero team officially join the MCU.

Due for release July 25, 2025, Fantastic Four: The First Steps is being directed by WandaVision’s Matt Shakman and is set in an alternative universe from the mainline MCU timeline.  Shakman has promised fans something “unlike anything at Marvel you’ve seen before”.

Despite 60 years of comic books and a couple of questionable movies to pull from, Marvel president Kevin Feige recently revealed that he used Fortnite as the inspiration for Galactus, who’ll be played by Ralph Ineson in the film. Speaking at Disney fan event D23, Feige confirmed he showed footage of the 2021 Fortnite x Marvel crossover event to the crew of Fantastic Four: The First Steps.

Galactus is a classic Fantastic Four foe, and exists by consuming entire planets. He first appeared in Fortnite at the end of Chapter 2 Season 3 and was the main antagonist for the following season.

Fans seem excited by this revelation as well. “Galactus had a good presence throughout that Fortnite season. He was a small dot in the sky in the start that gradually became larger, and he had a big speech before he started eating the Fortnite map,” wrote one fan on Reddit, with Feige telling the crowd at D23 that “the clip of Galactus destroying the island is so cool, I shared it with the team to get that spirit of Galactus across.”

It comes as Fortnite confirmed a new crossover event with Marvel that will feature the Fantastic Four and Dr Doom as playable characters. At D23, the team behind the event confirmed the collaboration would give players clues about upcoming Marvel films. Earlier this month, it was announced Robert Downey Jr. would be returning to the MCU as Dr Doom in Avengers: Doomsday.
