Jenna Ortega has spoken out again about rumours claiming she was dating Johnny Depp.
Last year, the Wednesday star shot down the rumours which started circulating when celebrity gossip account Deuxmoi claimed Depp and Ortega were reportedly seen together, possibly working on Tim Burton‘s Beetlejuice sequel.
“This is so ridiculous I can’t even laugh,” she wrote at the time. “I have never met or worked with Johnny Depp in my life. Please stop spreading lies and leave us alone.”
At the time, Depp also dismissed the rumours and confirmed that he would not be appearing in the forthcoming Beetlejuice Beetlejuice movie.
Now, Ortega has revealed that the rumours were gaining that much traction that Richard E. Grant even asked her about them when they were shooting the forthcoming A24 movie Death Of A Unicorne.
“It’s so insane to me. Like, I never spoke on that. I never said anything like that. Articles really do just make up their own quotes, but I thought that that was pretty hilarious,” she said in a BuzzFeed Puppy interview.

“I was on set with Richard E. Grant, and he came up to me and he just said, ‘Oh, so you and Johnny?’ And I laughed because I… I don’t know that person.”
Elsewhere, in the interview she also spoke about she once secretly auditioned for the role of Chani in Dune when she was just 15. It eventually went to Zendaya.
Meanwhile, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice the follow-up to the 1988 cult classic comes out in cinemas on September 4. Ortega plays the rebellious Astrid Deetz, the daughter of Winona Ryder’s Lydia, as the Deetz clan return home to Winter River following the death of Charles Deetz.
Speaking about teaming up with director Tim Burton, who she has worked with on Wednesday, she said: “On Wednesday we were just trying to get to know each other a bit. On Beetlejuice … he seemed a lot more playful and I think it actually helped our relationship a lot … it was just a very joyous, happy shoot.”
