Drake has new music “on the way”, according to DJ Akademiks

The hip-hop personality also denied rumours of Drake sampling Michael Jackson

DJ Akademiks has claimed that Drake has new music “on the way” amid his feud with rapper Kendrick Lamar.

Earlier this week (July 8), the hip-hop media personality – real name Livingston Allen – took to his social media accounts to reveal that the ‘Hotline Bling’ rapper will be releasing brand new music soon. “And yes.. enjoy all the other noise and bs.. Drake new music otw. and its fye…. trust,” read one of DJ Akademiks’ tweets.

He also addressed all of those who doubted his staying power and shared a separate tweet that read: “All u n****s who been acting like Drake finished… bookmark this tweet for 6 months from now. We dont want u n****s no where near us……Remember that.”

Akademiks also responded to fan speculation that Drake’s upcoming single will allegedly sample Michael Jackson‘s 1988 hit ‘Man In The Mirror’ after the rapper followed one of the song’s writers on social media.

The hip-hop personality quote tweeted a tweet speculating the sample and responded with: “Not True.”

Drake’s last full-length release was 2023 ‘For All The Dogs’. In a two-star review of the LP, NME said: “In the hours shortly before the album dropped, Drake announced that he would take a break from music to focus on his health. “I probably won’t make music for a little bit,” he told fans. “I’m going to lock the door on the studio for a little bit.” Hopefully he returns revitalised and renewed, because ‘For All The Dogs’ – his third solo LP in as many years – not only feels tiring, but sounds tired too.”

The claims of Drake releasing new music comes amid the rapper’s feud with Lamar. The beef between the two came to a head in April, when Lamar contributed a verse to Future and Metro Boomin’s ‘Like That’, and used the collab to respond to J. Cole, who previously claimed “Love when they argue the hardest MC/ Is it K-Dot? Is it Aubrey? Or me?/ We the big three like we started a league” on Drake’s track ‘First Person Shooter’.

Lamar told Cole and Drake on his ‘Like That’ verse: “Motherfuck the big three, n****, it’s just big me”. Cole later responded with his own diss, ‘7 Minute Drill’, but he later apologised for it and pulled it from streaming.

However, Drake fired back with two tracks ‘Push Ups’ and ‘Taylor Made Freestyle‘. The Canadian rapper then landed in hot water after he used AI to emulate Tupac Shakur‘s vocals, leading to the late rapper’s estate threatening legal action. He subsequently removed the track from streaming.
