Here’s why ‘Black Myth Wukong’ isn’t on Xbox yet

The Xbox version of the game had been due to launch alongside the PC and PlayStation versions

Xbox users are still waiting on release details for Black Myth Wukong, with one insider blaming a secret exclusivity deal.

When Black Myth Wukong was first announced in 2020, developers Game Science confirmed it would be coming to both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles as well as PC. However, it is currently only available for PS5 and PC after news of the Xbox launch was removed in a 2023 trailer.

In a FAQ section on their website, Game Science said it was “currently optimising” the Xbox Series X|S version of the game “to meet our quality standards”, with some insiders blaming a memory leak bug for causing Black Myth Wukong to fail the quality assurance standards at Microsoft. PlayStation users have reported performance issues with the game and the Xbox Series S has significantly less power, which would make those same issues far more pronounced.

Baldur’s Gate 3 had similar issues when it launched, with the Xbox version delayed by a couple of months to ensure it could run on the Series S.

However, according to a new report by IGN, the reason for the delay is because of an undisclosed exclusivity agreement between Sony and Game Science. IGN’s source claims the rumors of tech issues on Xbox are “inaccurate.”

After Black Myth Wukong was first delayed for Xbox, Microsoft released a statement that seems to back up the rumours of an exclusivity agreement. “We’re excited for the launch of Black Myth Wukong on Xbox Series X|S and are working with Game Science to bring the game to our platforms,” said a Microsoft spokesperson. “We can’t comment on the deals made by our partners with other platform holders, but we remain focused on making Xbox the best platform for gamers, and great games are at the centrw of that.”

Leaker eXtas1 has since doubled down on Black Myth Wukong being delayed due to tech issues though. “FYI, Secret exclusives do not exist, when you pay for an exclusivity, you advertise it. You do not hide it. Of course I have total respect for my colleague, but I trust more the people who have told me this first hand,” they explained on X.

Either way, there is still no release date for the Xbox Series X/S version of Black Myth Wukong. “We apologise for the delay and aim to minimise the wait for Xbox users,” Game Science wrote on their website. “We will announce the release date as soon as it meets our quality standards.”

In other news, Call of Duty: Warzone is bringing back the map that started it all with Verdansk returning to the game.
